At what height is a handrail installed?
Clear, concise answers.
The mounting height of handrails is specified in DIN 18065:
Standard height: 85--90 cm measured above the tread nosing. This range provides the best grip for most users.
Regulations: - General buildings: 80--115 cm - Accessible buildings: 85--90 cm, plus 30 cm extension beyond the start and end of the staircase - Minimum clearance from the building element (wall): 5 cm
Children's handrail: In buildings with children, an additional handrail at 60--75 cm height can be installed.
At HTS: The handrail height is determined during the survey and executed in accordance with applicable standards. On winder staircases, the height is measured at the walking line and visually harmonised.
