At what height is a handrail installed?

The mounting height of handrails is specified in DIN 18065:

**Standard height:** **85--90 cm** measured above the tread nosing. This range provides the best grip for most users.

**Regulations:**
- General buildings: **80--115 cm**
- Accessible buildings: **85--90 cm**, plus **30 cm extension** beyond the start and end of the staircase
- Minimum clearance from the building element (wall): **5 cm**

**Children's handrail:** In buildings with children, an additional handrail at **60--75 cm** height can be installed.

**At HTS:** The handrail height is determined during the survey and executed in accordance with applicable standards. On winder staircases, the height is measured at the walking line and visually harmonised.
