What does 'projection' mean for a staircase?
Clear, concise answers.
The projection (Ausladung) is an important planning dimension that describes the horizontal space a staircase requires. It is measured from the leading edge of the bottom step (entry) to the exit edge of the top step.
The projection depends directly on the stair shape: - Straight staircases have the largest projection, as the entire run goes in one direction - Winder staircases (quarter-turn, half-turn, three-quarter-turn) reduce the projection because the direction change saves floor space - U-shaped staircases with a landing require less projection but more width
In addition to the projection, sufficient clearance should be planned in front of the first step and after the last step for comfortable ascent and descent. During the survey, HTS records the available floor area and recommends the optimal stair shape for your room situation.
