What measurements matter for an attic staircase?
Clear, concise answers.
An attic staircase has particular requirements:
Key measurements: - Deck opening: Length and width of the opening determine which stair shape is possible. For a comfortable staircase, the opening should be at least 2 square metres. - Floor-to-floor height: Distance from the floor of the lower storey to the attic floor - Deck thickness: Affects the overall construction - Headroom: A minimum of 2 m clearance must be ensured
Important: HTS does not build loft ladders or fold-down stairs. For attic access, HTS manufactures full solid wood staircases -- provided the deck opening is large enough. For tight spaces, a winder stair shape or a more compact design can be chosen.
When planning a loft conversion, HTS recommends sizing the deck opening generously from the outset so a comfortable staircase is possible.
