Loft Ladder (Attic Access Overview) — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Umbrella term for fold-away ladders giving access to attics — includes folding, sliding and retractable variants.
Loft ladders provide access to uninhabited attic spaces or storage rooms. The ladder is housed in a lining frame set into the ceiling and is folded out or pulled down when needed. It may be made of timber or metal; special scissor ladders use jointed mechanisms to extend like a concertina. Thermally insulated lining frames prevent energy losses through the ceiling opening.
