Railing-Supported Stair — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Staircase whose railing performs a structural function.
In a railing-supported stair, the railing assumes a structural role. The railing posts or a solid handrail are connected to the treads and carry part of the stair's weight. This allows additional lateral supports to be omitted, giving the staircase an open and light appearance.
