Open Stair — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Staircase without risers between the treads.
Open stairs have no risers, leaving openings between the tread surfaces. This design appears light and modern and allows light to pass through the construction. For safety — especially with children and pets — the openings must not exceed 12 cm. For open stairs, DIN 18065 requires a nosing projection of at least 30 mm when the going is under 260 mm.
