Child Safety on Stairs (Overview) — Rule reference
Category: Rule reference
Umbrella term for child-protective measures — gates, riser protection, railing spacing, safety strips.
Child safety on staircases encompasses several aspects: the clear gap between railing spindles must not exceed 12 cm to prevent children slipping through. Horizontal railing infills must be designed so they cannot be used as a climbing ladder. Stair gates can be fitted at the top and bottom to block access for small children. In open stairs, the openings between treads should not exceed 12 cm.
