Fall Height — Geometric specification
Category: Geometric specification
Vertical drop distance at open stair sides and landings.
The fall height is the vertical distance between a walkable surface and the surface below onto which a person could fall. It is the decisive factor for determining the required railing or handrail height: for fall heights up to 12 m, residential buildings generally require a minimum of 90 cm; above that, at least 110 cm is mandatory. The exact requirements are set by DIN 18065 and the respective regional building code.
