Parapet Railing — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Fall protection mounted on a solid parapet.
The parapet railing sits on top of a solid parapet of masonry, concrete or similar material and complements it with a handrail. It is used above all alongside stair flights, landings and floor openings where the parapet already provides the primary fall protection. The combined height of parapet and handrail must meet the requirements of DIN 18065: at least 90 cm for fall heights up to 12 m, and at least 110 cm above. If the parapet has a walkable surface on top, no climbing aids for children must be created – horizontal intermediate rails are therefore to be avoided.
