U-Value — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Thermal transmittance coefficient of building components.
The U-value indicates how much heat passes through a building component when different temperatures prevail on each side. In stair construction, the U-value is particularly relevant for loft ladders and flat-roof access hatches, to evaluate the insulation performance of the lining frames. The lower the value, the better the thermal insulation and the lower the energy losses.
