Renewing treads on clad staircases — millimetre-accurate thanks to digital contour measurement, made in our Witten workshop.
What we renew during stair tread replacement
During stair tread replacement we renew the wood cladding of a clad staircase — that is a concrete or metal staircase whose structure remains in place and on which the wood treads are fixed. The old cladding comes off completely, the new one goes on completely: we replace all steps at once, not step by step, so the new tread sits uniformly and cleanly. On request we add matching risers. The decisive point is the precise fit: existing steps are rarely exactly straight, each has its own contour. That is why we trace every single step on site with a digital measuring device that records the contours directly onto the laptop. From this data we make the new cladding to the millimetre in our own workshop in Witten, so that every step sits without a gap. Important to know: this replacement is constructively only possible on clad staircases. If your staircase has a solid wood construction in which the steps are set firmly into the stringers, we build a complete new staircase instead — that is our staircase replacement.

Works — and does not: which staircases we replace treads on
Whether we can replace individual steps depends solely on the construction. On clad staircases the wood treads sit on a structure of concrete or metal — they can be released and renewed. On a solid wood staircase the steps are set firmly into the stringers and are load-bearing; they cannot be individually replaced without damage. For that case we have the right solution: a complete staircase replacement.
Works: clad staircase (concrete or metal with wood cladding)
Here the wood cladding rests on a load-bearing concrete or metal frame. We remove the old cladding and make a new one — contour-accurate, because we measure every step digitally.

Digital contour measurement on site
We come to you and trace every single step of your clad staircase with a digital measuring device. It records the contour directly onto the laptop — because no existing step is exactly straight and only this way does the new cladding fit to the millimetre. Measuring fee €150-250, credited against the order.
Manufacture in our Witten workshop
From the contour data we make the new treads — and matching risers on request — to the millimetre in our own workshop. You choose from six woods and three surfaces, while your staircase remains usable.
Replacement day: old cladding off, new cladding on
We remove the old cladding completely and install the new one — all steps at once, for a uniform tread. The concrete or metal structure stays untouched, only the surface is renewed.
