Balustrade
Row of small columns as a classic, decorative railing form.
A balustrade consists of a series of small columns or pillars (balusters) connected as a low parapet with a handrail. This railing element was particularly popular from the 16th to 18th century, its bulging shape reminiscent of the pomegranate blossom. Balustrrades serve as fall protection on balconies, roof edges and staircases and are used today primarily in classical and representative stair installations.
