Clad Stair
Structural stair clad with finished treads of timber, stone or tiles.
A clad stair consists of a load-bearing shell — usually reinforced concrete — which is then finished with a tread cladding of timber, natural stone, tiles or laminate. This separation of structure and surface allows great design freedom: the concrete shell provides the structural integrity, while the cladding determines the appearance, feel and impact sound. Clad stairs are the most common stair type in new builds.
