Impact-Sound Insulation
Measures to reduce sound transmission when walking on stairs.
Impact-sound insulation encompasses all measures that prevent footfall noise being transmitted from the staircase into adjoining rooms. Sound bridges arise wherever the stair is directly connected to the building — at bearing points, wall connections and landings. Decoupling bearings, elastic interlayers and floating supports interrupt these bridges. DIN 4109 defines minimum sound-insulation requirements for buildings. For solid-timber stairs on a concrete shell, impact-sound insulation is a particularly important planning aspect.
