Bearing Point — Glossary entry

Category: Glossary entry

Points where stair loads are transferred into the building structure.

Bearing points are the areas through which the loads of a staircase are transferred into the building. These include load-bearing walls, floor slabs or special fixing points. Non-load-bearing elements such as floating screed or thin facing shells are unsuitable as bearing points. The construction must account for the loads of the stair treads and transfer them safely into the building.
