Stringer Support Systems — Glossary entry

Category: Glossary entry

Connection solutions transferring stringer loads to ceilings and landings.

Support systems determine how stair stringers transfer their loads into ceilings, landings or walls. Typical options include direct bearing on concrete slabs, concealed steel angle brackets, beam anchors or recesses into load-bearing timber joists. The choice depends on stair type, the loads to be carried and aesthetics – visible fixings convey strength, while concealed supports create the impression of a floating staircase. Non-load-bearing elements such as floating screed or thin lining walls are unsuitable as supports.
