Stringer Beam — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Load-bearing beam beneath the treads.
Unlike stringers, a stringer beam sits as a load-bearing structure beneath the treads. Stringer-beam stairs are therefore also called saddle stairs, as the treads rest on the beam like a rider on a horse. Variants include two lateral beams, a central beam or an offset single beam; the beams may be straight or follow the step profile.
