Rise (Step Height) — Underfoot element
Category: Underfoot element
Vertical distance between two successive steps.
The rise is the vertical distance from one tread surface to the next, i.e. the height of a single step. Together with the going, it forms the step ratio and significantly influences the comfort of the stair flight. DIN 18065 permits rises between 140 mm and 200 mm for required stairs; a value around 170–180 mm is considered particularly comfortable.
