Slide-In Stringer Staircase — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Stringer staircase with treads slid laterally into the stringers.
In the slide-in staircase, the treads are pushed into side slots of the stringers and then wedged or glued in place. The stringers are not mortised but feature open longitudinal grooves or socket joints into which the treads are slid from the end. This is a simplified variant of the mortised stringer staircase and is rarely used today. It continues to play a role in historical stair-building craftsmanship and in certain traditional constructions.
