Stair Tolerances — Underfoot element
Category: Underfoot element
Permissible deviations for rise, going and tread surface.
Tolerances describe the permissible deviations between the target and actual dimensions of stair steps. Under DIN 18065, consecutive rises within a flight may only differ slightly so that the even walking rhythm is preserved; typical limits are no more than 5 mm deviation between neighbouring rises. The goings must likewise match within tight limits. For bespoke manufacture under DIN EN 15644, additional tolerances apply for joint widths, squareness and tread deflection. Adherence to these tolerances is essential for safety and walking comfort and is verified at handover.
