Accessibility — Rule reference

Category: Rule reference

Staircase design without barriers for people with disabilities.

Accessibility describes the design of staircases to enable safe use by persons with mobility impairments. In stair construction, this means sufficiently wide treads, low rises, slip-resistant surfaces, contrasting nosing markings and handrails on both sides. DIN 18040-1 (public buildings) and DIN 18040-2 (residential) define the specific requirements for accessible construction.
