Brushing — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Mechanical surface texturing of wood for a rustic feel.
In brushing, softer wood fibres are mechanically worked out so that the harder fibres remain as a tactile texture. The result is a rustic, relief-like surface with a distinctive feel. Brushed surfaces are particularly popular on oak and accentuate the natural grain. For stair treads, brushing should not be too deep, as dirt can accumulate in the grooves.
