Lacquering
Surface sealing through a closed lacquer film.
In lacquering, a closed film is applied to the wood surface, protecting it from moisture, dirt and mechanical wear. Lacquer is more hard-wearing than oil and offers stronger surface protection. The disadvantage: damaged spots cannot be touched up locally — with scratches or flaking, the entire tread must be sanded and re-lacquered. Special stair lacquers are particularly impact- and abrasion-resistant and are available in matt, semi-matt or gloss finishes.
