Clearance Profile — Glossary entry

Category: Glossary entry

Space to be kept clear above and beside the stair flight.

The clearance profile describes the space above and to the sides of the stair flight that must remain free of installations and building elements to ensure safe use. It encompasses the headroom (at least 200 cm vertically above step nosings) and the lateral clearance across the full stair width. The clearance profile is a frequent check point in stair planning — particularly at ceiling openings and where ceiling heights are low.
