European standard for bespoke handcrafted wooden staircases.
DIN EN 15644 is the European standard for traditionally made-to-measure wooden staircases. It sets requirements for construction, structural design, stability, railings and surfaces and applies in addition to DIN 18065. While DIN 18065 regulates the building-related key dimensions, DIN EN 15644 focuses on the product itself – the quality of the joiner-made staircase. Among other things, the standard defines permissible tolerances, joint dimensions, allowable tread and stringer deflections and test procedures for loading and stability.
