Graphical Tread Flaring (Drawing Method) — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Drawing-based method to set tread goings on curved staircases — one of two established approaches.
Graphical tread flaring constructs the goings of curved steps by drawing rather than calculation. In the curved section of a staircase, the steps must be arranged so that the going along the walking line remains uniform even as the turning radius changes. Common graphical methods are the angle method, the ratio method, the large-circle method and flaring on baselines. All deliver a harmonious step layout and are today often carried out automatically by specialised stair design software.
