Levelling Stair — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Stair bridging small height differences between levels.
The levelling stair – also called a differential stair – bridges small height differences between two levels. Typically it connects the entrance level with the first full floor or compensates small changes in level within a floor caused by build-ups or structural constraints. It usually consists of just a few steps but is subject to the same building-law requirements as any other staircase: rise-going ratio, slip resistance and, where the fall height is sufficient, a fall-protection system. Its simple form often makes it a design transition element between levels.
