Outdoor stairs are designed for exterior use and must withstand weather influences such as rain, frost and UV radiation. Metal parts are galvanised or powder-coated; timber must be durably treated or made from resistant species such as larch or black locust. Slip-resistant surfaces (at least R10 per DIN 51130) are essential for safety. A stable, frost-proof foundation forms the basis of every outdoor staircase.
