Escape Stair — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Staircase forming part of the escape route in an emergency.
An escape stair serves as a means of escape to safely exit a building in an emergency, particularly in the event of fire. It must meet special requirements regarding fire protection, flight width and handrails. In German building codes, an escape stair is termed a 'required stair'. Where interior fire protection is insufficient, it is often attached externally to the building.
