Staircases in public, commercial or multi-family buildings — DIN 18065 strict minimum requirements apply.
Under DIN 18065, stairs for non-residential buildings covers all legally required stairs outside residential buildings and apartments – for example in administrative, office, educational, retail or assembly buildings. Stricter minimum dimensions apply: the usable flight width is at least 100 cm, the maximum rise is limited to 190 mm and the minimum going is 260 mm. These values ensure comfortable and safe use even under heavy pedestrian traffic and in the event of evacuation.
