Stairs for Residential Buildings (up to 2 flats) — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Staircases inside residential buildings with up to two apartments — DIN 18065 relaxed requirements.
Under DIN 18065, stairs for residential buildings denote legally required stairs in buildings with no more than two apartments. Compared with stairs in larger or public buildings, reduced minimum dimensions apply: the usable flight width is at least 80 cm, the maximum rise is 200 mm and the minimum going is 230 mm – under certain conditions even 210 mm with appropriate overlap. Headroom may also be limited by a 45° slope above. These rules allow space-saving yet safe solutions in private residential construction.
