Railing Handrail — Edge-guard fitting
Category: Edge-guard fitting
Handrail mounted on the balustrade system of the staircase.
The railing handrail is the handrail fixed to the balusters or newel posts of a staircase and is the most common handrail type. Together with the vertical infill, it forms the fall protection and must be ergonomically graspable. The top edge usually sits 90 cm above the leading edge of the tread, or at least 110 cm for fall heights above 12 m. The railing handrail is rigidly connected to the newel posts and, where relevant, joined by wreath pieces across landings; its profile and material significantly define the overall appearance of the staircase.
