Suspended Stair — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Staircase with treads hung from a structural handrail.
In a suspended stair, the treads are fixed to a solid handrail or to tension rods anchored to the ceiling. The handrail assumes a structural role and must be dimensioned accordingly. This construction creates a particularly light, floating appearance and is suited to representative stair installations. Suspended stairs generally require a structural engineer's report or a European Technical Assessment.
