Self-Supporting Stair
Staircase without visible substructure, appearing to float in space.
In a self-supporting stair, no visible stringers, beams or other structural elements can be seen — the treads appear to float freely in space. Loads are transferred through concealed structural bolts, fixed cantilever brackets or a load-bearing railing. Self-supporting stairs place the highest demands on statics and construction and frequently require a building approval or European Technical Assessment (ETA). The result is an exceptionally elegant, light-permeable stair installation.
