Tread Protection — Underfoot element

Category: Underfoot element

Protective cover for treads during the construction phase.

Tread protection refers to temporary coverings that protect freshly installed treads from damage, soiling and moisture during the remainder of the construction phase. Typical solutions are self-adhesive protective films, corrugated cardboard, felt mats or custom-cut plastic covers. Because staircases are often installed early in the build, they are exposed to heavy tradesman traffic, dropped tools and building materials. The protection is usually left in place until shortly before handover and is then removed without residue. Good tread protection preserves the surface finish and avoids costly rework.
