Solid Wood Tread (Step Board) — Underfoot element
Category: Underfoot element
Individual step board made from through-and-through solid timber, used on concrete or steel substructures.
A solid wood tread is made from genuine, continuous timber — either from a single piece (solid) or from glued laminations (glulam). The crucial difference from veneered treads: solid wood can be sanded and refinished when damaged, extending its service life to decades. Common tread thicknesses are 40 mm for residential use and 60 mm for heavily used or cantilevered stairs. Solid wood treads are the quality hallmark of premium timber staircases.
