Fire Retardancy
Fire-resistance classes for staircase components.
Fire retardancy describes the time that building components can withstand fire. In Germany, fire-resistance classes such as F30 or F60 are used; the number indicates the duration in minutes during which a structure can withstand a fire. Fire-retardant loft ladders can thus protect the escape route in case of fire. The European classification according to DIN EN 13501 uses designations such as EI₂30 or EI₂60.
