Flat Stringer Staircase — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Stringer staircase with slim, flat side stringers in timber or steel.
In a flat stringer staircase the load-bearing stringers are designed as narrow, flat elements running parallel to the flight. This produces a particularly slender, modern appearance and is often combined with contrasting materials – for example dark steel stringers with light timber treads. Because of the limited material cross-section, treads frequently need additional stiffening such as glued-on under-webs to prevent deflection. Glass infill panels reinforce the transparent, airy character of the construction.
