Laminated Safety Glass (LSG) — Rule reference

Category: Rule reference

Multi-layer safety glass for stair treads and railings.

Laminated safety glass (LSG) consists of two or more glass panes bonded together by an elastic plastic interlayer (PVB or EVA). If the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the fragments together — the construction remains load-bearing and walkable. For walkable stair treads, LSG is required per DIN 18008-5, typically as a minimum three-layer build-up with chemically toughened individual panes. LSG is also used as a railing infill, combining transparency and safety.
