Marking (Stair Construction) — Preparation steps
Category: Preparation steps
Transferring the workshop drawing onto the actual workpiece.
Marking is the precise transfer of the elevation drawing or workshop plan onto the actual stair components – particularly stringers, handrail curves and treads. It is the foundation of all subsequent cutting, milling and mortising work and largely determines the fit and finish of the completed staircase. Set squares, templates, battens and modern laser measuring devices are all used. For curved flights, the tread flare and the stringer curvature must additionally be transferred cleanly onto the workpiece.
