Stair Elevation (Workshop Drawing) — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Scaled technical drawing of a staircase prior to production.
The elevation drawing is the scaled workshop drawing of a staircase and forms the basis for production and installation. It shows plan, side view and sections with all key dimensions – walking line, goings, risers, stringer routing, landings, headroom and connections to ceilings and walls. The drawing is produced either traditionally on a drawing board or, today, using specialised stair design software. From the elevation, templates are derived, workpieces are marked and CNC production is programmed.
