Pitch Angle — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Angle of the stair flight to the horizontal.
The pitch angle describes the steepness of the staircase as an angle to the horizontal. Normal building stairs have a pitch angle between 20° and 45°. The most comfortable residential stairs lie between 25° and 35°. Steeper stairs (over 45°) are classified as ladder stairs. The pitch angle results from the ratio of rise to going and significantly influences walking comfort.
