Three-Flight Staircase — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Staircase composed of three straight flights with two intermediate landings.
The three-flight staircase consists of three straight flight sections connected by two intermediate landings. It is used when the floor-to-floor height to be bridged is large or when the floor plan calls for a compact, square arrangement. Typically the three flights turn at right angles to each other, wrapping around a central volume and forming a pronounced stairwell opening. Three-flight staircases are often used in public buildings, apartment blocks and spacious single-family homes as representative main stairs.
