U-Shaped Stair — Layout variation
Category: Layout variation
Two-flight staircase with an intermediate landing and 180° direction change — space-saving U-shape in plan.
A U-shaped stair consists of two opposing flights connected by an intermediate landing, forming a 180-degree direction change. The plan resembles the letter U. This stair form is space-saving as the start and finish lie one above the other. Unlike a half-turn winder stair, the direction change occurs via a flat landing rather than winder steps, which allows more comfortable use.
