Upper railing post — also called the landing post — at the head of the staircase; connects handrail to landing.
The top newel post is the final post of a stair railing at the upper end of the flight. It forms the termination of the railing structure and is the counterpart to the bottom newel post. At the exit side, the railing must be designed to ensure a safe transition into the storey area.
