Stringer End Assembly — Glossary entry
Category: Glossary entry
Construction of the stringer ends with newel posts and fittings.
The stringer end assembly refers to the constructional detailing of the stringer ends at the bottom and top of the staircase. This includes the connection of the stringer to the top and bottom newel posts, tenon and bolt connections, holes for tie rods, and the transition to wreath pieces or handrails. A distinction is made between the lower stringer end assembly at the foot of the flight and the upper stringer end assembly at the top. The quality of the stringer end assembly has a defining impact on the stability and appearance of the completed staircase.
