Blind Stringer — Glossary entry

Category: Glossary entry

Decorative stringer without primary load-bearing function.

The blind stringer is a lateral stringer whose primary purpose is visual rather than structural. It conceals step ends or connections to the wall and provides a clean, finished appearance. At the upper and lower ends it typically projects slightly beyond the first and last step – this projection, known as the blind stringer overhang, serves as a design element and as a stop for top and bottom newel posts.
