Wall Stringer — Glossary entry

Category: Glossary entry

The stringer on the wall side of a staircase.

The wall stringer is the lateral stringer on the wall-facing side of a staircase — the counterpart to the open stringer. It sits directly against the wall or is mounted at a small distance from it. In housed-stringer stairs, the grooves in the wall stringer receive the treads. During installation, attention must be paid to a clean wall connection to avoid sound bridges.
